What does it do?
HTML File Translator is a small tool that helps you translate HTML files into another language. All elements of a HTML file needing translation are displayed, ready for you to translate. And the code itself is not touched so you don't risk messing up the file.
How does it work?
The program is quite simple and very intuitive. You choose which file to work on and the HTML file is displayed in one window. A second window opens up displaying a tag list. Each phrase, sentence, word etc. needing translation in the file is visible here.
Double clicking an entry in the tag lists opens up a new window where you can edit this text. At the same time the selected text segment is highlighted in the window displaying the HTML document so you see where you are.
You can adapt the program a little bit by adjusting the options. For instance you can choose to use word as a standards editor when translating the text segments.
In addition the program supports an export/import function. This lets you export the text to be translated into a plain text file. If you are not performing the translation yourself you can send this file to the translator and import the translated file later.
What it isn't!
I would not recommend this program for working with sites consisting of many and large files. There are no colour coding or any other coding of the segments already translated. When working with large files it can be a problem keeping the overview. I would also not use the program on files with scripts in as I had problems displaying all elements of my scripts (javascript).
Another limitation I see with this program is that the user interface is in German - although there is an option to set the language to English - not all items are translated.
Before you are allowed to start the program you have to register. This is free. After registration you are emailed a security key which lets you access the program. And then you are ready to go!
The program is Adware. One ad is displayed at the bottom of the screen showing you the HTML file.
Is it easy to use?
The user interface is very intuitive and I did not have any problems using the program.
There is no help section or documentation for this software. But through its simple nature I also don't see the need for this.
All in all it is a good program for translating small and static html pages.
