What does it do?
|

|
Jarte is a powerful word processor. The program is a good replacement for WordPad and Notepad delivered with Windows. It is compact and designed to fit the needs of home, school, and small business: A brilliant alternative to the huge, complex, and cumbersome commercial word processors.

How does it work?
|
|
|
The software has a unique graphical interface that might take a few minutes getting used to. The top section of the screen is dedicated to the many buttons. A nice label functions enables you to choose to label all the buttons - this helps you remember what each button does before you have gotten used to them.
|
|
|
There are five main tool panels available (File Tools, Spell Check, About, Font Tools, Paragraph Tools). By moving the mouse over each of these buttons the functions available in that tool panel will be displayed in a section to the left on the window. This provides you with quick and easy access to the many functions.
|
|
|
In addition to the main tool panels you also have other buttons available for instant access to functions, for instance Find, Backgrounds, Undo/Redo and lots more.
|
|
|
If you prefer to rather work with the usual display of menus and submenus you can choose to insert the main menu and access all the functions through that.
|
|
|
You can save your documents in .rtf, .doc or .txt format.
|
|
|
The most convincing thing about this word processor is that it incorporates much more features than a normal notepad. You can add background images and patterns and use an easy bookmark system. The Clip List lets you view and reuse the last 25 clipboard entries and the Reference Bar gives you instant access to online dictionaries, thesaurus, and encyclopedia lookup tools.

A Jarte Plus version is also available for $17. This version has even more functions. You can for instance attach document notes and define your own online references links and much more.
|

|
What it isn't!
|
|
|
One limitation of this program it its limited dictionary selection. Jarte can only be downloaded with the following dictionaries: American and British English, Dutch, French, German and Spanish.
|

|
It also has so many extra features that you have to spend some time getting to know them all before you can fully benefit from the richness of the software.
|

|
Is it easy to use?
|
|
|
You can choose to access the functions of the program through the normal File menu already familiar to all of us, or you can use the many buttons and shortcuts available. It takes some time getting used to the buttons but once you master them it is an easy and quick way of getting things done!
|
|
|
The many buttons are not all equally intuitive and in the beginning I had to use the help section and labeling function to remember what each button does.
|
